Once again, Santa will ride in a pedal powered sleigh during downtown Tucson’s Parade of Lights on Saturday and you can help escort him.
This event, which was probably Luci’s favorite last year, started five years ago when BICAS approached the group that runs the parade suggesting BICAS create a bike-powered sleigh for Santa.
BICAS’ Kylie Walzak said in the years prior, Santa was transported in a tank that would scare some of the smaller children.
The bike-powered sleigh allows Santa to weave up and down the street getting close to the children without scaring them or blowing exhaust into the crowd.
BICAS will be helping people decorate their bikes prior to the ride. Head down to BICAS between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to deck out your bike.
Final decorating will take place between 4 and 5 p.m. At 5 p.m. they will leave BICAS and head to the start line at 5th Avenue and 18th Street.
Walzak said the parade won’t actually start until 6:30 so cyclists can meet them at the start just before the 6:30 start time.
