The Tucson Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee announced their commuters and advocates of the year at the downtown commuter station.
Commuters of the year:
Diahn Swartz: Swartz was honored for dedication to the community and her work in the Tucson Department if Transportation. According to TPCBAC president Brian Beck, Swartz commutes five miles everyday and tries to instill her TDOT colleagues with a bicycle ethic.
Ari Shapiro: Beck said Shapiro, the owner of Xoom Juice, is often seen riding back and forth between his three stores with equipment and supplies on his bike.
Advocates of the year:
Nanette Slusser: Beck said, while Slusser isn’t an avid cyclist or bike commuter, she advocates for cycling especially in regard to the Urban Loop which will ring the city with a Multi-Use Path.
BICAS: BICAS was named the second advocate of the year for the work they do encouraging people to get on their bikes and use them as an alternative means of transportation.
